Chester Nomads 7 Saughall Colts 3
New opponents for the Colts, a fine, large but
incredibly sloping pitch and eventually a tough result.
The first quarter saw the Nomads go up 1-0, which
was a relatively good performance given the balance of play. The
Colts were playing up the slope and struggled to get the ball past
the halfway line. Some fine saves from Ben Sprowell in goal kept the
score down, but the Nomads passing on the large pitch was making
life very difficult for the Colts.
The second quarter saw the Colts kicking
downhill, but initially this didn't make any difference. The Colts
failed to make a tackle from the kick-off and the Nomads scored.
Then, from a Colts attack the Nomads broke and the Colts defence had
gone AWOL - they cleverly rounded Ben in goal and scored. 3-0 to the
Nomads. But then started the Colts fightback. Firstly, a Nomads goal
kick went straight to Charlie Evans who hit it first time straight
back into the Nomads goal. The Colts started applying pressure with
a few corners, but Ben was still having to make good saves in the
Colts goal. Just before half-time, there was a scramble in the
Nomads box with Charlie, Connor Andrews and Jamie Moore all getting
involved, and Connor was there to put the ball away into the corner.
3-2 at half-time.
Third quarter was uphill again, and the Nomads
scored three times without reply, despite some good work in goal
from Connor Andres. A combination of no tackling and ball-watching
led to the goals.
In the final quarter, the Nomads had a succession
of corners which were well-defended, good work from Connor in goal.
Eventually, the sheer weight of numbers led to another goal for the
Nomads despite great work from Ben and Dylan Moore in defence. Then
the Colts had a final fling. A good break by Jamie Moore led to a
shot from Patrick McKee which just missed. Then a final individual
goal from Patrick, picking up a long ball, beating a defender and
then slotting it past the keeper.
All in all a decent performance from the Colts
despite the scoreline. Some basic defensive errors but given the
quality of the opposition's passing, the size and slope of the pitch
and the fact that half the team had only got back from Beeston the
day before, nothing for the Colts to be ashamed of. And some good
well-taken goals in reply was very encouraging.
Goals: Charlie Evans, Connor Andrews and Patrick
McKee.
MOM: Ben Sprowell and Connor Andrews.

Vicars Cross 4 Saughall Colts 2
This was an enjoyable well fought encounter which
saw the Colts playing some good football with discipline and
commitment despite the unruly behavior of one of the opposition, who
was eventually removed from play.
A good start saw the boys putting VC under a lot
of pressure and only the heroics of an outstanding goalkeeper kept
them in the game. It looked like we would never get anything past
him until a well weighted through ball from Connor Andrews put
Patrick Mckee clean through on goal managing to slide the ball
underneath the out-coming keeper as as he went to ground.
VC got one back soon after through an own goal,
and another through a wicked deflection. Fair play to the Colts they
kept up the pressure, another good corner from Mathew Harrop was
initially cleared from the goal line only to land in the path of
Torin Jenkins who calmly side footed the ball through a gap in the
crowded box.
This was a good display from the Colts, Seb
Garston did weel in only his second appearence between the sticks,
and Mathew Harrop, steady in defence, put VC under a lot of pressure
from throw-ins and corners, good to see him getting forward.
MOM - Mathew Harrop
Goal Scorers - Patrick McKee, Torin Jenkins

Saughall Colts 1 Upton 4
How often do we say this: it was a game of five
quarters. The Colts started with a strong line-up, but suffered
their usual failing of starting slowly. An inability to hold the
ball in the first quarter and not clear their lines resulted in a
quick two goal deficit. As the Colts started to apply some pressure
and come back into the game, a very good shot about which the
defence could not do anything made it 3-0 at the break.
And then, in the remaining four quarters, the
Colts played pretty well. Luke Bretton took a deserved goal in the
second quarter; Upton rarely threatened the Colts goal, and their
fourth goal was a really unlucky own goal, a ricocheted deflection
looping over the Colts keeper off a Colts leg.
Connor Andrews won the man of the match for a
great all-round display. In one phase of the game, he made a great
run through on goal with the ball, fed a Colts attacker, then the
move broke down and Upton quickly counter-attacked. Who was the last
man making a goal-saving tackle? Connor again.
A good game played in a good competitive spirit
against two evenly matched teams. A draw would have been a fair
result, and but for that first quarter would have been achieved.
Goal scorer: Luke Bretton.
MOM: Connor Andrews.

Park Saints 0 Saughall Colts 11
Bit of an unusual one this. Saints only had six
turn up so elected to play 5v5 with 7v7 rules on a small sloping
pitch with two different size goals. None of this phased the boys
and they set about this game with great enthusiasm. It was good to
see steady performances from Seb and Torin, tireless running from
Luke and Charlie, and excellent finishing from the FULL BACK Jack
Redford. Seb also tried the Goalkeepers top on for size but had
little opportunity to get it dirty.
Goal Scorers: Patrick McKee 4, Mathew Harrop 2,
Charlie Evans 2, Jack Redford 2, Luke Bretton.

Saughall Colts 0 Newton 11
A torrid game from Saughall, though at times they
showed their true quality. Newton scored straight from the kick-off,
and set the tone for the game. In the first quarter, Newton scored
five, despite a couple of pieces of heroics from Ben Sprowell in
goal. Saughall just couldn't cope with Newton's ability to shoot
hard from range, a couple of Newton's players showing quite some
poise and power for ones so young.
In the second quarter, the Colts put up a vastly
improved performance, far better tackling and a bit more fighting
spirit. Despite conceding another goal, Charlie Evans had a shot
saved and Matthew Harrop had a great shot just off-target. By the
end of the quarter, Newton were beginning to look a bit ragged.
But they re-grouped for the third and fourth
quarters, and Saughall couldn't do much to stop the flood. Newton
scored a couple of great goals, in particular one finish which van
Basten in his prime would have been proud of.
A difficult day for the Colts, thoroughly
out-classed. But there were positives. The team kept playing, they
kept their heads up, and they never gave up.
MOM: Luke Bretton.

Saughall Colts 4 Blacon 6
Another slow start meant the Colts soon found
themselves 3-0 down and chasing the game. Hard work, commitment, and
teamwork had been a little lacking since the Christmas break but the
remainder of this game showed the boys getting back to their former
levels. An excellent performance at the back from Mathew & Dylan
began to limit Blacon's opportunities. Good work from Patrick up the
right wing followed by a lovely ball into the danger area set
Charlie up with a chance he took with relish. Jack Redford worked
tirelessly on the right, Ben and Connor did well between the sticks.
Patrick scored from outside the box with a lovely chip over a
crowded penalty area.
The game ended 6-4 to Blacon, but was certainly the boys best team
performance of late.
Colts goal scorers: Patrick McKee 2, Ben Sprowell, Charlie Evans.
MOM: Mathew Harrop

Helsby 2
Saughall Colts 1
A relatively
chaotic start due to a change of location, a rough pitch with a
pronounced slope and a smaller squad that normal. Despite these
challenges, the Colts were still confident of getting a decent
result against a team which they beat easily earlier in the season.
But the start of
the match maybe showed some there was some complacency in the air.
Helsby had all the possession and pressure, and Saughall could not
get near the ball. Helsby had a decent shot which went for a corner.
A scrambled clearance led to a long throw from Helsby and,
Stoke-like, they pitched it into the Colts’ box. Another scramble
ensued, and Heslby managed to deflect the ball in. 1-0 to the home
side. This seemed to give Saughall the jolt they needed, and Charlie
Evans had a couple of fine shots, one hitting the post. With Dylan
Moore getting his tackles in at the back, the Colts began to run the
game. Matty Harrop had a great free-kick cleared for a corner and
then a great turn from Patrick McKee gave Luke Bretton a chance but
he hit the post.
The second
quarter saw the Colts make a change in goal, where Connor Andrews
took over for the first time. But the whole quarter was dominated by
scrappy midfield play, neither team managing to impose itself on the
other. This was a far better Helsby team than we had played
previously.
Third quarter,
and the Colts finally made a breakthrough. A good pass from Charlie
and Patrick beat the keeper across the face of the goal. 1-1. Now
was the time for the Colts to win the game, but instead they could
not break through. On a rare break from Helsby, a long cross caused
confusion in the Colts penalty area and the ball deflected in off a
Saughall leg. 2-1 to Helsby.
The remainder of
the third quarter and the whole of the fourth quarter were totally
dominated by Saughall. Plenty of shots from Patrick, good work up
front by Torin Jenkins, Jack Redford and Charlie rampaging up and
down the pitch with seemingly limitless energy, but no final
delivery – the ball just would not go in.
And so it ended
2-1 to Helsby. A sign of Saughall’s dominance was that, during the
final three quarters, Connor in goal did not have to touch the ball
other than the own-goal and to take a couple of goal-kicks –
certainly no saves required. A decent performance, but with
something missing – and a very, very disappointing result.
Colts
goal-scorer: Patrick McKee.
Colts MoM: Jack
Redford.

Christleton Newscene 9 Saughall Colts 0
A very tough start to the year for the Under 7's.
A long lay-off from playing, a difficult pitch, cold damp weather,
and one of the best teams around as opposition all made for a
challenging morning. The Colts decided
to try a new formation of 2-3-1 instead of their usual 3-3. To begin
with, the players struggled mightily. In the first two quarters, the
Colts hardly had a touch, let alone a shot, and all the pressure was
on the Colts goal. Despite going in 6-0 down at half-time, there
were sterling performances from Ben Sproul in goal and from Jack
Redford in defence, repeatedly blocking shots with his body.
The third quarter was far more encouraging. The
defence held firm, Jack Redford started on some of his rampaging
runs forwards, and the Colts even won a few corners and got some
shots off on the Christleton goal. A goal-less quarter, a far better
performance, and signs that the players were adapting to the new
formation - very promising. But in the
fourth quarter the lack of match practice was evident as legs tired
and heads dropped. Excellent attitudes
and a good learning opportunity for the players still made this a
worthwhile trip. Colts MOM: Dylan Moore.

Waverton 4 Saughall Colts 1
The early signs for this game were not
promising. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Seahill,
but a waterlogged pitch led to a hurried re-arrangement of the game
at Waverton. The Saughall team turning up at the wrong location,
sickness meaning a relatively small squad, a very rough and muddy
pitch and pretty dire weather all added to the hectic and slightly
chaotic nature of the match.
The Colts didn’t have time to warm up before
kick-off, and it showed. They were caught cold by Waverton, a mad
scramble in the box led to an early goal for them. More pressure
from Waverton ensued but the Colts defence held strong with some
good tackling and covering from all the players. Eventually, the
Colts succumbed but in a most unlucky way. A speculative long range
shot from Waverton was well-covered by Ben Sproul in the Colts goal,
but a deflection off a stray leg changed the direction of the ball
and it ended up in the net. This injustice seemed to fire the Colts
into action, and Patrick McKee had a good chance saved by the
Waverton ‘keeper, whilst Matthew Harrop made some crunching tackles
in defence. End of the first quarter and the Colts were 2-0 down.
The second quarter saw a far better
performance from Saughall. The team seemed to get its balance, and
did a lot more attacking with some excellent passing between the
players. Charlie Evans had a great shot saved by the ‘keeper,
leading to a corner. With Matthew and Dylan Moore continuing to stop
all attacks from Waverton and Jack Redford making some great runs
down the right flank, the Colts applied more and more pressure on
the Waverton goal. Charlie was to the fore, and Luke Bretton and
Jamie Moore supported him well, but just couldn’t break through.
Waverton had a rare attack but Ben Sproul made a great save to keep
them out, coming off his line to block a one-on-one. More pressure
from the Colts followed, with Luke almost finishing off a
half-chance. No goals to either side in the quarter, but an
excellent performance from the Colts – one of their best quarters of
the season.
Waverton started the second half as they
started the first, with a great move leading to a goal. Good passing
and movement, there was not much the Colts could do about it. A
couple of bone-shaking tackles from Seb Garston prevented further
Waverton goals. The Colts started applying more pressure, but the
Waverton tackling was excellent. Rarely did the Saughall players get
close enough to shoot, and when they did the Waverton ‘keeper stood
up strong. Matthew did make a great break and got through , but a
last-ditch tackle foiled him. A corner from Matthew shot along the
Waverton goal line and the Colts had three consecutive shots, but
Waverton cleared each time, defending desperately but effectively.
Conor Andrews was fully committed, earning himself a headache by
bravely heading the wet, muddy and heavy ball. The quarter ended
with the score 3-0 to Waverton, but only because of their excellent
and solid defending.
As the fourth quarter started, the rain really
began to come in, making conditions even more difficult than they
already were. More pressure from the Colts and a succession of
corners became the pattern, with the odd break from Waverton
successfully stopped by Matthew. From another Colts corner Waverton
broke and only a great save from Patrick, now in goal, prevented the
scoreline getting worse. During another midfield melee, Jamie chased
down a loose ball and fed Charlie Evans who scored through the
defender’s legs. A thoroughly deserved goal. But then Saughall got
too excited, attacking with too many players. Waverton broke and,
with no defence to cover, easily scored with a good shot into the
top corner. From the kick-off, Matthew had a great run up the line
to earn a corner, but again the Waverton defence stood up to the
task.
Much credit must go to everyone involved in
this game. To Waverton themselves, for putting on the game at such
short notice and for playing the game in a very positive and
sporting manner. To the parents of the Colts players, for coping
with the last-minute arrangements. And finally, for the Colts
players, whose level of commitment was clear from their appearance
by the end of the game – caked in mud. Despite the circumstances and
conditions and, indeed, the scoreline, they put in one of their best
performances of the season with every single player contributing.
Colts goalscorer: Charlie Evans.
Colts MOM: Ben Sproul and Patrick McKee.

Westminster Park 4 Saughall Colts 3
A very cold, wet Saturday morning, new opponents
away, a badly cut-up and rough pitch, and a very well organised
opposing team made for a potentially intimidating game for the
Colts. The presence of a "proper" fully-uniformed referee added to
the atmosphere. But the Colts made an
excellent start. Dave had stressed to all the players to start well,
to focus and to get on top of the game from the kick-off, and they
followed his instructions perfectly. Colts dominated possession for
most of the first quarter, earning a succession of corners. Some
great passing and interplay, all the more creditable because of the
state of the playing surface, eventually got its reward with a good
goal from Charlie Evans. Just when it looked like Colts might
overwhelm Westminster, the opposition started to get back into the
game. Right near the end of the first quarter, Westminster broke
after successfully withstanding some pressure, the Colts should have
cleared but failed to do so and a speculative cross was deflected
into the goal by a Colts knee. Very unlucky, but as Ernest
Hemmingway and David Moyes both said, you make your own luck. 1-1 at
the first break. The second quarter, and
it could have been a different game. An early Colts attack saw
Westminster Park break up the field. The Colts had too many players
committed to attack and despite a good block from Ben Sproul in
goal, Westminster put away the rebound. More Westminster pressure
followed. From a drop ball, the Westminster centre-forward showed
great skill and composure to beat both the Colts' last defender and
'keeper to finish with aplomb. By the end of the quarter, the Colts
were hanging on to keep the score down to 3-1 at half-time.
After the half-time interval (with oranges very
sportingly provided by the opposition), the Colts came out fighting.
Good play from Patrick McKee gave Charlie another chance, which he
took with relish. 3-2 and the Colts were back in the game. Now it
was end to end stuff. Westminster broke, beat the last defender and
were one-on-one with Ben Sproul in the Colts' goal, but Ben pulled
off a great save. Then it was the Westminster 'keeper's turn to make
a great save. The Colts kept the pressure on, multiple corners and a
last-gasp goal-line clearance from a Westiminster defence. Finally,
Charlie scrambled one in to finish off his hat-trick and make the
score 3-3. The final quarter was all set
up to be a nail-biter, and it turned out to be. Massive credit to
both teams for going for the win, it was really exciting. Ben Sproul,
now playing out, made a goal-saving tackle, and then Charlie had a
great opportunity but the Westminster 'keeper again made a great
save. The last few minutes were thrilling, with both teams having
chances. Westminster came out on top, finishing off a hectic
scramble in the Colts' box. There was still time for one last
chance, Patrick setting up Charlie but the shot went just wide.
A great game enjoyed by all the spectators,
despite the weather. Both teams can take a lot of positives from the
match - the sporting atmosphere, keeping the ball on the ground. The
Colts can consider themselves a but unlucky and, on another day,
could have won comfortably. Colts
goalscorers - Charlie Evans (3). Colts
MOM - Patrick McKee.

Saughall Colts 2 Vicars Cross Dynamos 3
Having not met previously, the Dynamo`s were
an unknown entity to the boys and this may have contributed towards
another slow start. Having conceded early yet again the Colts soon
picked themselves up and produced some their best attacking football
to date, they just could not finish the moves off with goals. Lots
of possession led to indiscipline at the back, particularly during
the second period, and only some outstanding last man tackles from
Jack Whittingham prevented an even more unjust scoreline. By the
third period the Dynamos had three, when Colts pressure finally paid
off with a well taken goal by Charlie Evans, with a good assist from
Mathew Harrop. Charlie also tipped up with a goal in the fourth
period after coming on as a late substitute, leaving the scoreline a
closer reflection of the game.

Saughall Colts 5 Park Saints 1
A beautifully sunny and mild Halloween morning
saw the Colts welcome new opposition in the form of Park Saints to
Sea Hill. Would the Colts provide tricks and treats, or would they
end up looking like a bunch of pumpkins?
Straight from the kick-off, the Colts applied
pressure on the Saints' defence, with Patrick McKee and Jamie Moore
in particular causing problems and only fine saves by the Saints'
keeper keeping the scoreline at nil all. But a Colts' corner from
Charlie Evans was fired in by Conor Andrews. More pressure followed,
good shots from Charlie and Patrick didn't get through. But then,
after another scramble, the Saints failed to clear their lines and
Charlie finished off with aplomb. Straight from the kick-off,
Patrick won the ball in the inside-left channel, advanced on goal
and beat the 'keeper at the near post - a move copied a few hours
later by Cesc Fabregas. The quarter finished with a cheeky chip from
Patrick which went just wide. A measure of the Colts' dominance in
this quarter was the fact that Ben Sproul in the Colts' goal didn't
touch the ball. The second quarter saw
extensive team changes for the Colts and a far better performance
from the Saints. Torin Jenkins and Luke Bretton still caused
problems up front, with Luke's dribbling skills to the fore in
particular and Torin playing with intelligence. The Saints were down
to six players for much of the period, and actually forced a couple
of saves. But Luke and Torin continued to apply pressure and only
good goalkeeping and bad luck prevented them from scoring.
The third quarter saw the Colts back on top.
Charlie had two point-blank shots bravely saved by the Saints'
'keeper. A great run from Jack Redford down the right wing, doing
his best Glen Johnson impression, saw him get to the by-line and
pull the ball back brilliantly across the area. But no Colts player
could get on the end of it, and the Saints cleared. Patrick finally
made the pressure tell, shooting from the right into the far corner.
It was obviously impressions day - Patrick performed a somersault in
celebration which would have made Peter Beagrie proud.
The final quarter started with Ben Sproul hitting
the post, but then the Saints started to apply some pressure. A good
attack was smothered by a good gather from Charlie, now in goal for
the Colts, but another attack was not cleared by the Colts and the
Saints got a consolation goal. But there was still time for more
action. Dylan Moore won a tackle, ran with the ball and hit a big
shot, just palmed onto the post and out for a corner by the 'keeper.
More good pressure from Dylan and the ball broke to Luke, who took a
very well-deserved goal. Colts'
goalscorers: Conor Andrews, Charlie Evans, Patrick McKee (2), Luke
Bretton. Colts' MOM: Torin Jenkins.

Newton Athletic 5 Saughall Colts 1
The return game against Newton Athletic saw a
better performance from the Colts, despite the scoreline. The first
quarter saw pretty much relentless pressure from Newton, but the
Colts defence was well organised and held steady, marshalled by
Patrick McKee. Ben Sproul was a very safe pair of hands in goal and
Jack Redford got some great clearing tackles in. Luke Bretton
managed to relieve the pressure with some fine dribbles upfield, and
at one point Dylan Moore put his leg, head and other body parts on
the line in repelling an attack. The second quarter saw the same
pattern, Ben Sproul pulling off some great saves and Charlie Evans
appearing all over the pitch, defending and attacking. A couple of
times Newton shot across goal and wide, but mostly the 0-0 scoreline
at the break was down to hard work and diligent defending.
The third quarter was a poor one from the Colts.
Newton's first goal came from a high shot in the middle of the park,
with no tackles being made on the Newton attackers. The shot was way
too high for Ben in goal despite his leaping effort. Their second
goal was a fluke, a long cross from the left-hand side was caught by
the wind, evading all the attackers, defenders and Ben in goal. Yet
another great save by Ben kept the score down, but then poor
defending in the shape of a clearance back across the Colts' own
goal led to an easy third goal for Newton. The fourth quickly
followed, a scrappy close-range effort when the Colts really should
have cleared their lines. A mad ten minutes from the Colts had
killed the game, but still the team kept their heads up. The quarter
finished on a high note with Luke Bretton having a great run up the
pitch and forcing a corner. All credit,
the Colts came out in the fourth quarter still keen and positive.
Charlie Evans made one great break forward, and then a couple of
minutes later gave telling cross from the left hand side. The cross
found Torin Jenkins in space, who finished really well, beating the
keeper with a high shot. Finally, the Colts' push forward to get a
second goal caught them out and they were caught short at the back
allowing Newton an easy fifth goal. All
in all, a far better performance than the home game against this
opposition, and the Colts can be proud of both their performances
and their excellent attitudes. Colts
goal-scorer: Torin Jenkins. Colts MOM:
Charlie Evans.

Saughall Colts 1 Newton Athletic 6
A tough encounter for the boys! After the
successes of the previous two games, it came as a big shock for the
lads to find themselves a goal down from the kick off without even
touching the ball. During the first period we were overrun, most
heads were down, and it was 4-0 to Newton by the first break.
After a much needed chance for a team talk and
a few changes we started the second period in better spirits and
began to make more of an impact on the game, Charlie Evans deserves
a special mention for his tireless work rate up front against a very
resolute defence, he has set the benchmark for the squad in terms of
attitude and effort!
During the remainder of period two and all of
period three the boys managed to deal with most of what Newton could
throw at them and apply some pressure on the Newton defence which
led to a well taken and much needed morale boosting goal from
Charlie Evans.
Credit must go to Newton who defended very
well and aimed for goal at every opportunity, in fact the fourth
period may well have been a different story if not for Ben Sprowell,
who not only volunteered to be goalkeeper against a team who knew
how to shoot, but did the job excellently making some fine stops,
well done Ben!
All in all the boys can take a lot of
experience from this game and be proud of how they lifted themselves
after an early onslaught.
Goal Scorer: Charlie Evans

Saughall Colts 5 – Helsby 1
A cloudy, gusty but warm autumnal morning saw
the Colts host Helsby at Seahill. The Colts numbers were down on the
normal, with a squad of ten including a couple of players carrying
injuries and sickness.
The first quarter saw the Colts easily on top.
Patrick McKee quickly got the first goal of the game with an assist
from Charlie Evans, and Luke Bretton scored the second in a goalbox
scramble after Charlie’s initial shot had beaten the keeper but not
the last defender. Another chaotic scene in the Helsby defence made
a Colts goal seemed inevitable, but great commitment and effort from
the Helsby defence resisted. The quarter was so one-sided in terms
of possession and territory that Ben Sproul in the Colts goal did
not touch the ball.
The second quarter was far closer, and both
teams had good chances. After another period of sustained pressure
from the Colts, Helsby broke upfield in possession. The Colts did
not have enough players to recover and Heslby scored a fine
breakaway goal. This appeared to give the visitors a much need shot
of confidence, and only a goal saving tackle from Ben Sproul and a
fine clearing header from Conor Andrews prevented equalisers. 2-1 to
the Colts at half-time.
The third quarter started with more pressure
from Helsby. Both Dylan Moore and Charlie Evans made crucial
tackles, before a break from the Colts resulted in a free kick.
Cleverly taken by Matthew Harrop straight to Charlie Evans, Charlie
scored well. From this point, the Colts re-asserted their dominance.
A shot by Dylan Moore was only stopped by a hand ball, and another
well taken free-kick from Matthew Harrop led to Patrick McKee almost
scoring.
At the start of the final quarter, great
pressure from Jamie Moore and Luke Bretton in the corner led to a
chance for Patrick McKee, which he took with relish, beating the
‘keeper from a seemingly impossible narrow angle at the near post.
The Helsby keeper was being kept busy, beating out a shot on the
break from Jamie Moore and saving excellently from a high raking
shot from Charlie Evans. Finally, Colts pressure told as Jamie Moore
took the ball on another break and beat the goalkeeper comfortably.
There was still time for Dylan Moore to skim the post with
long-range effort.
The final score – 5-1 to the Colts – reflects
the hard work that the Colts put into this game. Although Helsby
were physically the bigger side, and the skill levels on both sides
were very even, the superior teamwork and commitment from the Colts
saw them win out. Great grit and work from Torin Jenkins and Jack
Redford in particular allowed others to score. Honourable mentions
should go to Matthew Harrop and Patrick McKee. Matthew played
diligently in defence and saved his energy as he was suffering from
a bad cold, and Patrick McKee played despite having an eye injury.
Colts goalscorers: Patrick McKee (2), Luke
Bretton, Charlie Evans, Jamie Moore.
Colts POM: Jack Redford.

Saughall Colts 2 - 3 Blacon JFC
Sunday 6th September saw the boys in action as
under 7`s for the first time entertaining Blacon JFC. A slow start
and some sloppy defending by the Colts gifted the opposition an
early lead, the game then settled to a very evenly matched affair
with both teams creating chances and defending well.
During the second period Blacon did manage to
score another despite some excellent work at the back from Ben
Ramsden and Jack Redford. Torin Jenkins and Conner Andrews put
Blacon under pressure but just couldn't convert it to a goal.
The third period belonged to Saughall,
excellent work rate from the whole team and some deft link up play
from Patrick Mckee and Charlie Evans saw the Colts score two to
bring the game back on level terms.
The final period was also evenly balanced,
both teams tired towards the end, the larger under 7`s pitch taking
its toll, and a draw looked to be the expected and just result. This
wasn't to be as a last minute goal by Blacon ended the game 2-3.
A great team performance from the 2009/2010
UNDER 7`s. Goal Scorers: Charlie Evans
