Olympic
Trophies Challenge Cup Final
Saughall
Colts 0 Christleton New Scene 2
The
squad met at 8:00 a.m. at The Greyhound pub, to get ready for their
ride to Chester in a fantastic "Hummer" limo. Pat, Justine
and Emma had the job of looking after the players inside the limo,
but didn't complain too loudly! On arrival at the Saunders Honda
Stadium, the players went to the changing room and had a pre-match
team talk.
After a delayed kick-off, the Colts got under way.
From the starting whistle, New Scene flew at the Colts at full
throttle and Saughall had to do a lot of defending. After ten minutes
of this one-way traffic, the Colts started to get into the game but
were still letting CNS have too much time on the ball! Then
inevitably, CNS scored, despite a valiant effort by Thomas, who very
nearly saved it. This put more pressure on the Colts players, who had
already been feeling nervous. Just before the break, the Colts nearly
got level with a shot on the CNS goal.
In
the second half, the Colts were quicker to close down their
opposition and started to hassle them. However, Saughall were now
chasing the game. CNS then scored a well-taken second goal and this
killed the game. Saughall continued to battle and put a lot more
pressure on CNS but it was too late. CNS started to run down the
clock, by continually rolling on and rolling off their substitutes.
With defeat inevitable, the Saughall coaches tried to get all the
Colts substitutes on the pitch to experience some play at Chester
City's stadium.
On the
whole, it was an enjoyable day out for all and the players will learn
from this experience. The parents were all proud of the way the
players conducted themselves throughout the day. A big well done to
all the squad for getting to the final.
