Saughall produced their finest display of the season to clinch the Olympic Trophies Challenge Cup on Sunday 15th May at The Saunders Honda Stadium Chester.

It was the culmination of a very competitive season finishing joint second in the league and earning a place in the semi final against Blacon Youth.  This was a hard fought game the Colts winning 1-0 and getting through to that all-important final.

The boys arrived at the stadium for 9.50 eagerly anticipating the game.  They were well supported by parents, grandparents, brothers sisters and friends. Excitement rose as they were led to Chester City’s changing room to prepare for the semi final.

Penalties were taken before the game to decide a winner in the event of a draw. Daniel .Jamie and Adam were all on target and we won the shootout 3-2.

The semi was a tight affair, both sides up for the game and exciting the large crowd in the stands. The starting eight of Daniel, Sam,  Lee, Alex, Adam, Simon, Jamie and Mattie all had strong first half and between them had chances to put us in front. Then early in the second half came the break through. Mattie flighted a corner from the right, Alex rose above the rest and headed into the net!

Blacon had their chances but Saughall held on with the help of Tom, Robert, Jake and Liam, who all played their part in the victory.

As in the semi final penalties were taken before the final, again Daniel Adam and Jamie finding the target. Daniel saved a penalty so again we won the shootout 3-2.

The final was played at a fast pace. Saughall and Nomads both as keen as one another to get in front. Both goals were scored by Mattie one in each half. The Colts excelled at their game; they played for each other and believed that this was their year. Kyle and Matthew featured in the final and upped their game contributing to the win. A solid performance by Daniel in goal ensured Colts of a well-deserved victory. The final was a close and a sporting contest with Nomads playing their part to create a great final.
